OpenFlight Live Q&A

There is a simple idea/thought - The launch monitor you build yourself. Progress, proven.

OpenFlight is a real launch monitor built from a Raspberry Pi and three off-the-shelf radars — about $500 in parts, open source top to bottom. FlightWeb is its cloud: every session uploads itself, and your trends live forever.

An Open-source launch monitor and Cloud... community inspired and built this may be one of the coolest projects I have seen come out in a long time.

These are things I don't need to see when I'm bored because I can't play golf right now...lol

I disagree, this is perfect. You’re unable to play right now so you fill the time with building the launch monitor to be ready when you can play again. And, then you can measure your performance to make sure you are back to pre-injury performance.

I feel like I'm going to end up on a watch list if I do this.

Its ok I am already on like three of those form making orders for science labs the FBI just comes by and has a chat every couple of years to make sure you are not fomenting insurrection other then that no issues.

"Why did you lose your security clearance?"

I built a launch monitor.

What kind of launch are you monitoring sir?

The bombs that I’m driving! Oh crap, probably shouldn’t have said “bombs”!

I need to learn a little reading comprehension or at least get some sleep, I was trying to log onto the call and realized today is not the 28th.

This really seems to be up your alley but it is doppler radar not camera

I saw that and admittedly it might not be my favorite but the whole idea is incredibly cool. If doppler radar can do this then surely photometric can too.

Either way it’s a very cool concept and one that I’m really excited to learn more about!

I agree you should be able to get the cameras similar to what square is using, link them up and set up a computer vision program to make it all work I bet. Obviously a lot of development on the computer vision part, but that is essentially what the GC Quad does. Seems like such a fascinating concept. We also are wondering about a new machine for our kids homeschooling and thinking maybe we do this an build it since all of it is done online so the machine does not need to be overly powerful. Plus they get to learn about putting a computer together.

What’s funny is so much of this is way over my head as far as my knowledge of computers go. I would love to learn more about exactly how all of this works so I’m really excited for this live Q&A

Totally agree. I can understand the basics and work with data so have heard of computer vision and stuff, just don't ask me to actually build the thing. Not sure I can make it but will be sure to watch the recording. Also I notice the sensors they list for launch angle and club path are depreciated so I wonder what might be taking over for those?

fingers crossed that the only potential thing that could impact this would be me sneaking away for a round

I saw some info about this a while back and completely forgot about it. Excited to sit in an listen to them.
